City To Get $40,000 For Drainage Improvements

The regional flood board is supporting several projects to improve storm-water drainage in Rio Rancho.

The Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority also hopes to hire a contractor by the end of the month to build a combination storm-water-holding basin and sports field at Haynes Park.

The authority's board of directors Tuesday approved giving as much as $40,000 to Rio Rancho to build a drainage pond on the far west city limits at Northern Boulevard and to begin making drainage improvements near Rainbow Boulevard and Tulip Road.

Residents in a partially developed neighborhood near Northern Boulevard between Fifth and 10th streets have been complaining for several years about standing water left over after storms, Rio Rancho Public Works director Ken Curtis told the board. …
