A funny thing happened to Everclear's Art Alexakis on his way to recording his first solo album. The CD instead became "Scenes From an American Movie, Vol. I: Learning to Smile," the three-piece band's fourth studio album, which was released in July.

In November, the group's fifth disc, "Scenes From an American Movie, Vol. II: Good Time For a Bad Attitude," came out. The two releases close together put the group in a rare position that has been occupied only by the likes of Guns 'N Roses and Bruce Springsteen, who released two separate albums about the same time in the early '90s.
