Lawyer Says Jewelry Was Conditional Gift

Not every love story has a happy ending.

In 1991, David McHollan asked Dana Evans to become his wife.

Evans, a few years older than the now 58-year-old Santa Fe man, accepted his proposal and a $2,400 antique platinum engagement ring with a 1-carat diamond in the middle.

The couple never married, and their relationship turned sour.

Since they never tied the knot, McHollan now wants his former Santa Fe fiancee to give the ring back. McHollan claims the ring, which Evans still has, was a conditional gift of his proposal of marriage, and Evans didn't keep her end of the deal. …
