Eight games into the 2001 season, Rio Rancho High School's softball team this week finally begins to see teams near its own zip code.

The Rams (6-2), fresh from a strong showing in Bullhead City, Ariz., are hosting their own tournament beginning Friday at Eagle Ridge Middle School.

Rio Rancho, which played six teams from Arizona and California last weekend and finished 11th in a 40-team field comprised of some of the best programs in the country, opens against Sandia at 1 p.m. Friday on Field 1 at Eagle Ridge.

"They did a great job (in Arizona)," said Rams coach Paul Kohman. …
