When police or ambulance crews respond to an emergency in someone's home or at the scene of an automobile accident, the victims may not be conscious or coherent enough to answer important questions about their medical history.

This potential dilemma has spurred a collaborative effort in the Mountainair community to participate in the nationwide Vial of Life program.

Mountainair school district nurse Cindy Brannon suggested the project to local health and emergency services officials after seeing it work effectively on the West Coast during the 1970s and '80s.
