Second Day Brought Balloon Rally to Life.

* Special events entertained enthusiasts even when weather wouldn't cooperate

With winds topping 10 knots and intermittent rain showers, Saturday wasn't a good day for flying balloons.

But on Sunday, the second day of the 17th annual St. Pat's Invitational Balloon Rallye, pilots awoke to perfect flying conditions, and nearly 105 balloons took to the skies.

"The pilots said it was a perfect day for flying," said rally chairman Lou Duvall. "Some flew for an hour and a half to two hours and ended up way up on the east mesa. They had a good wind taking them to the southeast."

Even with the cancellation of Saturday's launch at Morris Park, balloon enthusiasts had plenty to keep them entertained. …
