Industrial Park Will Bring Jobs

A moratorium on a certain kind of zone change isn't likely to hamper a developer's plans to build a 320-acre industrial park in Belen, Valencia County Planner Steven Chavez said this week.

The park, which is planned to expand to 2,800 acres in the future, is being proposed by Robert Gately, president of Campbell Farms Corp. of Albuquerque.

Gately said he plans to bring a paper mill to the property, which is northwest of Belen's Alexander Airport and is owned by the corporation. An aerospace company also has shown interest in coming to Belen, he said.

He declined to elaborate on the prospective park tenants, saying the information is sensitive because businesses don't want it known they are considering relocation until an agreement is reached. …
