Governor Upset Over Tax-Cut Proposal

Gov. Gary Johnson has threatened to veto money for northern New Mexico water and sewer projects, road improvements, public buildings and public schools.

That money is included in a measure passed in the recent Legislature for more than $250 million in improvements, called capital outlay, around the state. The Republican governor is dissatisfied with a tax relief package, also passed to him by the Legislature led by Democrats, and has threatened to veto that measure as well.

Johnson described his stance Tuesday as a dose of "economic medicine" for legislators.
