Teacher Charged After Arrest of Her Student.

A Capshaw Middle School teacher has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after one of her students, a 14-year-old without a driver's license, was arrested on suspicion of drunken-driving while she rode with him.

The music and band teacher, 29-year-old Maria L. Chavez of Santa Fe, has pleaded innocent to the charge, said her attorney, Doug Couleur.

"It's too early for me to comment on what anybody's intentions were," Couleur said Friday, adding that Chavez's relationship to the boy was strictly that of a teacher.

"Nothing more than that," the attorney said.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Ray Sisneros said deputies still are investigating the nature of the teacher's relationship with the 14-year-old boy. …
