Grear's Efforts on Both Ends of the Court Advance UNM

With 3:57 to play, Chelsea Grear tugged on her jersey and looked longingly for relief from the New Mexico bench. She wanted no more.

Coach Don Flanagan, satisfied she'd given her all and with a 22-point lead, complied and gave Grear the rest of the night off.

It was well deserved.

New Mexico doused the Blazers of Alabama-Birmingham 77-55 Wednesday night thanks largely to the 5-foot, 11-inch wing, who scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. But that wasn't even the best part.

Grear played the lead role in holding UAB All-American Deanna Jackson to a quiet 16 points, nine below her average, as the Lobos (21-12) cruised to a surprisingly easy Women's National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals victory before an appreciative 6,796 at the Pit. …
