*Memories of Holocaust drive Benjamin Jacobs to remind world of the horrors

Holocaust survivor Benjamin Jacobs had completed two years of dentistry school when, in 1938, his family was herded into a Poland ghetto with thousands of other Jews.

But the skills he learned in his unfinished dental education eventually saved his life.

When he ended up a prisoner at Auschwitz near the end of the war, Jacobs was given the task of extracting gold fillings from the teeth of dead prisoners before the bodies were burned. He said it was his needed skill that spared him the fate of nearly 6 million Jews killed during the Holocaust. …
