Allison Wants No-Cost School Time Change.(Metro & New Mexico)

Change start times for elementary and high schools, but don't spend any more money doing it.

That is the charge Albuquerque school superintendent Brad Allison gave his staff.

But, Albuquerque Public Schools spokesman Rigo Chavez says, the district is not promising change at no cost.

At least one change lighting high school practice fields would be costly, other district officials said.

"My guiding direction is do it at existing cost," Allison said in an e-mail message to the Albuquerque Journal this week.

Allison said that lighting the fields shouldn't be considered a cost of moving high schools to a later schedule because they are needed regardless of whether start times are changed. …
