Hispano Chamber Leaves Ghost Behind.(Business)

The doors to the future were unofficially flung wide open Friday for the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce.

That is when chamber staff began the long-anticipated task of moving from musty old "haunted" space at 202 Central to its new posh pad a brand-new, $1.8 million headquarters complex at 1309 Fourth SW in the heart of the historic Barelas neighborhood.

"It's airy, clear, spacious, calm and beautiful," said chamber spokeswoman Maria Elena Alvarez. "It just has a very, very comfortable feel and the neighborhood feels very warm coming to work where we were at before, it was a very old hotel that had been renovated, the top floor of a hotel room that was turned into offices. …
