* Capital's fast start beats Santa Fe 9-7

The difference between Capital's fast start and slow finish during Tuesday afternoon's 9-7 prep baseball victory against cross-town rival Santa Fe High was literally the difference between night and day.

With afternoon temperatures hovering in the 60s, the Jaguars enjoyed a commanding 9-1 lead in the early going before the Demons (2-9) staged a rally as the sun began to set.

Scoring six runs on just three hits in the bottom half of the fifth, the Demons nearly had the comeback before umpires stopped the scheduled seven-inning contest after just six frames because of darkness.

"We ran out of daylight and we ran out of innings," Santa Fe coach Gary Fiorina said. "If we only had one more inning, we might have pulled it off. But, really, this was a good game for the city and for the fans that decided to be here. …
