Board Allows Church To Demolish Building.

A church in the historic heart of Santa Fe received approval Tuesday to demolish much of its building except a sanctuary designed and built by architect John Gaw Meem in 1939 and develop building designs.

Discussion over First Presbyterian Church's plans for a new building to house meeting rooms and offices, and an underground garage for parking, has gone on for months after the city's Historic Design Review Board rejected the church's first plans in September.

And despite mediation meetings between city staff, church officials and an architect to hammer out some compromise on the plans, on Tuesday the review board still battled over the height of the proposed building. …
