Thousands of PNM Customers Lose Power.(Metropolitan)

Thousands of PNM customers in Albuquerque were left without electricity, some for as long as two hours, after a backhoe struck a power pole support wire that snapped into a transmission line. The accident knocked 10 area substations off-line Tuesday morning, according to power company reports.

The accident occurred on Eubank SE, south of Central, cutting off power to about 32,000 customers at 8:50 a.m., said Julie McCabe, a spokeswoman for the Public Service Company of New Mexico. Power was restored to most areas by 9:25 a.m. and fully restored by about 11 a.m., she said.

Northeast, southeast and southwest parts of the city were affected along with major institutions like the University of New Mexico, city hospitals and the airport. …
