Smaller Vendors Say Contract Could Hurt

Visitors to Albuquerque International Sunport could see plenty of store renovation following City Council approval Tuesday of a new retail contract proposal.

About six months of noise, dust and construction beginning about January, a slow season for the airport should bring more retail choices for travelers and an estimated $2.7 million in additional revenue for the airport over seven years, said Jay Czar, aviation director.

Opponents say the city will reap those advantages at the expense of small vendors who lack the resources to bid on the contract packages approved by the sharply divided City Council. …
