Draft Resolution Going to Council

Gov. Gary Johnson all but promised Tuesday to veto a major funding bill for Albuquerque's proposed Triple-A baseball stadium, leaving general obligation bonds as the likely funding source, city officials said.

Johnson's decision against signing a bill allowing Albuquerque to raise its lodgers tax from 5 percent to 6.25 percent would wipe out about a third of the funding Albuquerque needs to build or renovate a ballpark, said Anna Lamberson, director of finance and administrative services.

That makes general obligation bonds, backed by property taxes, more likely as a funding source for the stadium, Lamberson said. …
