Commission To Get Land For NW Loop.

Sandoval County commissioners have approvd proceeding with acquiring land for the proposed Northwest Loop Road.

The Northwest Loop is proposed as a 40-mile north-south road that would link U.S. 550 with Interstate 40 near the Rio Puerco.

It is a state project and is not directly connected to the proposed Northeast Corridor road that would link N.M. 14 to Interstate 25, county spokesperson Gayland Bryant said.

In 1992, the county finished the first 1.2-mile leg of the loop from U.S. 550 south to the Hawk Missile Site.

"It is regionwide transportation alternative designed to bypass Albuquerque," Bryant said Monday. …
