Febrile seizure is alarming but not dangerous.(Health)

Q: My 2-year-old grandchild had a convulsion last month at my house, frightening my husband and me a lot. We called 911 and got him to an emergency room, where they said he had an ear infection and had had a "febrile seizure." He went home with a prescription for amoxicillin and nothing else but a good discussion by the ER doctor. Our daughter didn't hear the discussion. What should she know?

A: First, your fright and the fright your daughter has are very normal.

Seizures are very alarming, since they show lack of control by the brain, a body part we think should always be in control. Fortunately, seizures with fever are almost never dangerous and they are very common one of every 20 kids between 6 months and 6 years has at least one. …
