'All the world's a stage' and Theatre-in-the-Making director prepares young actors to take their places

Spend five minutes with Theatre-in-the-Making director Paul Ford and you will get an idea why the Albuquerque Arts Alliance gave him a 1998 Bravo Award for Excellence in Arts Education for his work with the group.

Ford is positively passionate about transforming young people from awkward teens and preteens to fully realized human beings. Acting, he says, is the perfect conduit for change.

Since 1989, Ford has touched hundreds of people through Theater-in-the-Making, a kind of theater laboratory that offers performance workshops for adults and kids, workshops for teachers, performances in schools and theaters and a "Books Alive" component that allows his pupils to write and adapt their own works for performance.

Many of his former students have chosen to go into theater as a career, but Ford likes to think his influence on their lives is more holistic. …
