Galles' Mears Is Starting at Back of the Pack.(Sports)

AVONDALE, Ariz. Casey Mears arrived Wednesday with the enthusiasm, optimism and high expectations that all rookies have before their first race.

After qualifying Saturday, Mears was disappointed, frustrated and even angry.

Mears didn't qualify well for today's Pennzoil Copper World Classic, the first event on the Indy Racing Northern Light Series. In fact, only two cars were slower; three rookies had the slowest times.

Mears will start 25th and Brandon Erwin 26th. Mears' Galles Racing teammate, Didier Andre, was the slowest, almost 20 mph slower than pole winner Greg Ray.

It was a coup for Albuquerque's Galles team and the IRL to sign Mears, son of racer Roger Mears and nephew of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rick Mears. …
