* 2,500 eighth-graders get a chance to talk to 400 adults about jobs and volunteer opportunities

Not all of them had booths at "School to World" a sort of deluxe career fair for eighth-graders but event organizers lined up representatives of 120 careers and more Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Attorney. Chef. Automotive technician. Art therapist. Paramedic. Theater lighting designer. Urban planner. Mayor. Hawk handler.

Mike DeWitte, an engineer at Sandia National Laboratories and a coordinator for the pandemonium, said the event grew out of a sense among community leaders of a need for relevancy in the school curriculum. …
