If it helps to cluck like a chicken, bleat like a sheep or sing silly songs to get students to learn a foreign language, then Kathleen Zipf will do it.

Zipf, the chairwoman of West Mesa High School's foreign language department, teaches French and German.

It is Zipf's style of teaching that has earned her an Excellence in Teaching Award at the secondary level from the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching.
