It's getting easier to donate time and money to help repair the fire-scarred bosque.

Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez announced on Thursday the creation of a Bosque Restoration Fund at the Bank of America, allowing people to make tax-deductible donations. Volunteers and in-kind contributions -- such as seeds, chainsaws and herbicides -- are also needed, he said.

"We really want to get this done," Chavez said during a news conference near the Central Avenue bridge over the Rio Grande. "I want to thank Albuquerqueans for rallying in this crisis."

About 417 acres of bosque -- the riparian forest flanking the Rio Grande -- burned in fires last month, fire department spokeswoman Lynn Reule said Thursday. …
