"Come See Our New Home" proclaimed the November 1951 newspaper ads that announced an open house for the Southern Union Gas Company Building in Downtown Albuquerque, a building ballyhooed back then as "our modern, new home."

Now an effort is afoot to place the building in the National Register of Historic Places as a significant design by master architect John Gaw Meem and "as one of the foremost manifestations of early Modernist design in Albuquerque."

The city's Landmarks and Urban Conservation Commission endorsed the nomination this week.
