Appellate Panel Looks At Removing Limits

SANTA FE -- The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals is considering whether Albuquerque should toss out its campaign spending limits, which are some of the last in the nation.

A three-judge panel of the appellate court on Thursday heard oral arguments in two cases filed against the city by 2001 unsuccessful mayoral and City Council candidates Rick Homans and Sander Rue.

The panel made no decision after hearing about an hour of testimony.

A ruling would bring clarity to the issue for Albuquerqueans, who during the race saw the caps at one point upheld but later enjoined. …
