Crews Double Containment Lines

TAOS PUEBLO -- The Encebado Fire continued to grow Thursday, although at a much slower rate, and the fire failed to gain much strength, sending no massive plumes of smoke skyward as it has every other day since the lightning-sparked fire started a week ago.

As a result, fire crews were able to double the containment lines bordering the southern edge of the smoldering blaze from 10 percent to 20 percent.

By 8 a.m. Thursday, fire officials estimated the fire's size at 5,011 acres. And by 8 p.m., Mark Lujan, a spokesman for the Taos Pueblo governor's office, said the fire was still about the same size. …
