Venture May Create 100 New Jobs Locally

An Albuquerque defense contractor is expected to help develop the Army's future weapons as part of a $150 million contract.

Boeing Co., lead contractor for the Army's "Future Combat Systems" project, will announce today that Honeywell Defense Space Electronics Systems in Albuquerque will be part of the contract, according to the office of Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M.

About 100 new jobs are hoped to be created locally, a Wilson spokesman said. Honeywell officials couldn't be reached for comment.

The Army's future systems project, aimed at making the service lighter and faster in combat, involves a high-tech mixture of manned and unmanned aerial and ground vehicles working in concert. …
