SANTA ANA PUEBLO -- Patience is much more than a virtue at this year Albuquerque City Women's Golf Championship. It's a mandate.

That became apparent for defending champion Maggie Ramirez on Wednesday. Ramirez lost her patience and nearly lost the lead after the second round at Twin Warriors Golf Club.

"It was a long day, and I just got impatient," said Ramirez, who rushed and missed four short putts on the back side, including a 3-footer on 18. "It tests you mentally out here, wears on you. I can't let it get to me (today)."

After an even-par 73 on Wednesday to go with her 68 on Tuesday, Ramirez has a one-shot lead over 2001 champion January Romero and a three-stroke advantage against two-time former champion Nancy Romero. …
