Crews Working In Pecos Wilderness

The Molina and Capulin fires, burning largely unfettered in the Pecos Wilderness, generated plenty of smoke again Wednesday, and complaints from people downwind.

The U.S. Forest Service has deposited two crews on the fires, dubbed the Molina Complex, which together have scorched 1,355 acres, according to an update Wednesday.

Ninety-six firefighters are assigned to contain the Capulin Fire, at 1,145 acres the larger of the two. The Molina Fire is being monitored only.

Smoke rising up over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains was visible in Santa Fe, 12 miles from the fires. Nambe Pueblo, adjacent to the wilderness area, was blanketed in hazy smoke Wednesday morning, according to several callers to the Forest Service. …
