Reward for Pup May Be Scam Payment.(Final)

SANTA FE -- Pet owners beware -- someone stole a Pomeranian from the Whole Foods parking lot June 28, and the dog, Mr. Tibbs, was returned safely only after its owners paid a $1,000 cash reward under what police call "suspicious" circumstances.

Karen Cassyd-Lent said she was crying and screaming after she walked out of Whole Foods after shopping around 5 p.m. June 28 and found Mr. Tibbs missing from her car. The window was open just wide enough for someone to snatch the dog while she was gone, Cassyd-Lent said.

"I was convinced that he had been stolen," she said.

While Cassyd-Lent was crying, a man who was shopping at the market told her he had secured the safe return of his dog after it had been stolen on three occasions by putting a reward advertisement in the paper, she said. …
