Blood Sample Disputed In DWI Homicide Case

A Shiprock woman accused of DWI homicide is asking a state District Court judge to throw out evidence in her case that could potentially prove she had been drinking at the time of a crash that killed 18-year-old Danielle Romero last August.

Erline Nakai's attorney, Joseph Riggs, filed a motion in Sandoval County District Court on May 29 asking that a blood alcohol test taken on Nakai after the Aug. 15 crash not be allowed.

A hearing on whether the motion to suppress the blood evidence, as well as a motion to delay a trial in the case and motion to keep prosecutors from using Nakai's medical records, is scheduled for Thursday. …
