Re-Entry Into Community Aided

Santa Fe County will apply for a $490,000 federal grant designed to help county inmates get back on their feet prior to their re-entry into the community.

On Tuesday, the County Commission approved a Health Services Division request to apply for a "Home for Good" grant offered by the U.S. Department of Education.

The focus of the program is to assist county inmates who have jail sentences of three months or longer to avoid re-offending and ending up back in jail, said Linda Dutcher, who is director of the county program Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Transition. …
