Have Your Say On New Water Plan for State.(Journal North)

Coming soon to a location near you: Representatives of the New Mexico State Engineer and the Interstate Stream Commission.

They want to talk about water. Both agencies face a December deadline, imposed by the governor, to come up with a comprehensive state water plan. One goal of this process, says state Engineer John D'Antonio, is a document that will allow these two water regulating agencies to balance fairly the needs of all water users in times of shortage. Another: providing legislators with a clear list of priorities, so that the money we spend on water gets spent wisely.

Planning is a sometimes tedious and never glamorous business. So is consensus-building, which D'Antonio and Interstate Stream Commission director Estevan Lopez also are engaged in. …
