Money is everything when it comes to whether or not to build a new 80,000-square-foot Santa Fe convention center to replace Sweeney Center.

That's the message from the city's Civic Center Task Force, which intends to iron out final cost estimates for a new center before sending its final recommendations to the City Council for a vote. The new center's price tag previously has been pegged at about $48 million.

On Tuesday, the task force held its second-to-last meeting, the day after a Monday evening Neighborhood Network meeting at St. Vincent Hospital where a majority of the comments were opposed to a new convention center venture. …
