Council Ready For Sale of Hospital.(State)

LAS CRUCES -- The City Council passed four resolutions Monday positioning itself to seek offers from the private sector for the purchase or management of the publicly-owned Memorial Medical Center.

Commissioners of Dona Ana County, which owns the hospital along with the city, are scheduled to take up the exact same four resolutions at a meeting today.

City and county officials moved to end their lease agreement with Memorial Medical Center Inc., the private, nonprofit group that has managed the publicly-owned facility since 1998, in recent months when the hospital's financial struggles became apparent.

Memorial Medical Center ended last fiscal year with $12 million in losses, which were blamed on the opening last summer of the competing MountainView Regional Medical Center owned by Triad Hospitals Inc. …
