Six Police Dogs To Get Protective Vests.(Final)

LAS CRUCES -- Six city police dogs will receive protective vests, like those their human partners wear, thanks to a 6-year-old girl's dream and the generosity of a registered nurse.

Brianna Blevins was inspired to raise funds to buy Kevlar vests for city police dogs after seeing a story about just such an effort by another child on the Animal Planet cable channel, said the girl's mother, Terry Blevins. The vests cost about $600 apiece.

The owner of the Burger Time chain allowed mother and daughter to put out hand-decorated canisters to collect coins at five restaurants on June 30. …
