Blazes Near Santa Fe More Active


As the Encebado Fire raged on the outskirts of Taos, two lightning-caused fires near Santa Fe increased in size and became more active, generating smoke and causing air quality concerns.

The Molina and Capulin fires have been burning since June 23 in the Pecos Wilderness about 12 miles northeast of Santa Fe, and until July 3 the fires were allowed to burn without active suppression.

But now the Forest Service has 75 personnel fighting the two fires -- called the Molina Complex -- which have grown to about 800 to 900 acres total. Crews are concentrating on the Capulin fire, which fire officials say has the most growth potential. …
