Panel Was Named To Monitor Funds

Albuquerque Public Schools has awarded millions of dollars in contracts for new school buildings even though an oversight committee to keep tabs on spending has yet to meet.

APS has awarded at least $14.6 million in contracts and hired architects for 25 projects with funding approved by voters in February.

"I most definitely have some concerns," said former Bernalillo County Commissioner Ken Sanchez, appointed to the citizens committee by APS board member Robert Lucero. "Some of the expenditures are taking place. We should have at least been given some information where the money's being spent. …
