Local youths give Homies a high-five.(Final)

At the offices of Youth Development Inc. on North Fourth Street, Josh Riley, 14, said he got his first Homie as a birthday present from his brother. His collection now numbers more than 200.

"They got nothing to do with drugs, or guns, or any kind of violence," Riley says, as he works on an art project at YDI's Gang Intervention Program. "They're just a bunch of people who like to hang out and ride around in lowriders."

Brandon Cavis, 13, says the Homies are "people showing off their style."

"Rockers have posters and little toys to show off their style," he says. "Well, this is our style."

Program director Judy Pacheco-Sanchez agrees with the kids. …
