The multi-storied adobe buildings of Taos Pueblo are a piece of living history -- continuously occupied since their construction centuries ago, said a pueblo historian.

"Taos and Acoma are the two (most recognized pueblos)," said Joe Sando, a pueblo historian with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque.

Taos is the northern-most pueblo in the state, and the main part of the present buildings were likely constructed between 1000 and 1450, according to www.taospueblo.com.

The age was an important reason the pueblo was designated a National Historic Landmark and declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. …
