3 McKinley Inmates at Large

McKinley County jail administrators delayed at least four hours on Friday before reporting the escape of four inmates, including two slaying suspects, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Three inmates remained at large. One of them faces a charge of capital murder in the shooting death of a Gallup police officer last year, said McKinley County deputy Ron Williams.

"We in law enforcement are totally disgusted and it's disheartening," Williams said of the reporting delay. He described the delay as an "oversight" but declined to provide details.

The three inmates who remained at large include Robert Kiro, 34, who faces trial on charges including capital murder and attempted murder for the May 30, 2001, shooting death of Gallup police Cpl. …
