The University of New Mexico football team doesn't seem all that interested in making history during its voluntary summer workouts.

The Lobos have a chance to make back-to-back bowl-game appearances for the first time ever. That goal, however, has little bearing on the team's focus in July.

"All the talk about bowl games and rankings and all that stuff, that's really not important," sophomore tailback DonTrell Moore says. "We're doing all this work now because we want to play well for each other."

UNM strength and conditioning coordinator Mark Paulsen says all the team's scholarship athletes, several walk-ons and three incoming scholarship freshmen -- quarterback Tye Butler, wide receiver Jonathan Harrell and linebacker George Carter -- are doing more than merely participating in the summer sessions. …
