A University of New Mexico law professor has been named interim director of the Southwest Hispanic Research Institute.

Margaret Montoya succeeds Felipe Gonzales, who will return to his full-time position at the university as a sociology professor. Gonzales led the institute for seven years.

UNM plans to conduct a national search in the fall for a permanent director, said Terry L. Yates, UNM's vice provost for research.

Yates said Montoya will serve as interim director until a permanent replacement is found and that she will help with the search. …
