Proposal Is To Use Desalination

A proposal to turn salty groundwater into fresh drinking water for Santa Fe is headed to the State Engineer for a second time.

"We are now in the process of putting together a new amended application based on additional information we obtained from our groundwater specialist," said Eluid Martinez, himself a former State Engineer and one of four businessmen and engineers who make up The Resource Solutions Group, the company proposing the project.

Martinez said he expects the new application to be submitted to the state in the coming weeks.

The original application, filed last June, was put on hold after concerns arose that the project might impair the water rights of well owners in the Estancia Basin, where the project would be located. …
