NMSO plays 2nd fiddle to fireworks.(Venue)

The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra may be playing well-known pieces at its Saturday, July 5, concert, but Roger Melone thinks that something else will be the centerpiece.

Fireworks.

"There will be more than 20 minutes of fireworks and the pyrotechnician does fireworks mostly with symphony orchestras," said Melone, the NMSO's associate conductor.

The pyrotechnician, whom the NMSO identified as Steve Franz, has choreographed fireworks to three pieces on the concert -- Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man," and full orchestral arrangements of "America the Beautiful" and Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. …
