Tips Offered For Holiday

Fireworks can complicate a pet's life on a long holiday weekend, according to Kate Rindy, executive director of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.

"We usually receive twice as many animals around the Fourth of July. The loud noises of firecrackers frighten animals and often cause them to bolt and run, trying to get away from the sounds," she said Thursday. "More often than not, the animals then become lost and can suffer injuries due to traffic accidents or other mishaps. Many will be brought into the animal shelter."

The Animal Shelter and Humane Society offers these tips for pet owners over the July Fourth holiday:
