Spanish President to Visit.(Journal North)

SANTA FE -- Spanish President Jose Maria Aznar will visit New Mexico next week hoping to strengthen centuries-old connections.

"The purpose of the visit is to further cement Spain's strong ties to New Mexico and also to explore some trade possibilities," Gov. Bill Richardson said Thursday in a phone interview.

This will be the first trip to New Mexico by a Spanish president. The nation has had just a few presidents since dictator Francisco Franco died in 1975.

During his two-day trip, Aznar will address state lawmakers at the Capitol and dine with Richardson at the Governor's Mansion. He is expected to visit the Palace of the Governors as well as St. …
