Air, Water Tests Look at 9 Homes.(Journal North)

State Environment Department ground-water quality specialists will test the homes of nine Santa Fe residents near Ortiz Park for air quality and well-water quality samples.

The tests will be done next week to determine if the homes have toxic gas levels or inorganic materials in the well water left over from an old city landfill that the park, also called the Santa Fe dog park, was built atop.

Messages left at the homes of eight of the residents were not immediately returned Thursday.

But one resident living next to the dog park said he has not had problems with toxic gas in his home.

Richard Pendergrass said he was aware that Ortiz Park was a city landfill that was closed nearly 30 years ago and was covered before he bought his home. …
